Baby products often carry several fabric claims at once. The most useful information is the fibre composition, weave or knit, weight and care instructions.
Cotton
Cotton is widely used because it is familiar, washable and available in many weights. Organic certification is a separate claim and should be stated only when it applies to that specific product.
Muslin
Muslin describes a light, open weave rather than a fibre. It is commonly made from cotton, though bamboo blends are also available. Its breathability makes it useful for swaddles, bibs, burp cloths and washcloths.
Bamboo-rich knits
Bamboo-derived fibres are often blended with cotton or elastane to create soft, stretchable knits. Read the percentage composition because products described as bamboo may still be blends.
Check the care label
Frequent washing affects every fabric. Follow the brand's temperature and drying guidance, wash with similar colours and avoid bleach unless the care label permits it.
There is no single best fabric for every use. Choose based on the product's purpose, your baby's skin, the weather and how often it will be washed.
